Bacary Sagna Compares Arsene Wenger to Sir Alex Ferguson

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is as good as Sir Alex Ferguson, according to the club’s former defender Bacary Sagna.

There has been a lot of pressure on Wenger in the last few months. The Frenchman has been asked to resign on a number of occasions by the club supporters, who have even unfolded banners against the manager even at the Emirates stadium. As the resistance against Wenger continues to grow, he has received support from various quarters, including one of his former players. Sagna played for Arsenal for several years before making the switch to Manchester City a couple of years ago.

One of the reasons for the Frenchman deciding to join City is the need to win trophies. He is one of the several Arsenal players to have left the club in the search of clubs that can satisfy their hunger for major honours. Arsenal, on the other hand, have been only able to win the two FA Cup trophies in the last decade.

Wenger has been offered a new two-year contract and fans have been against the club to withdraw this offer. The Frenchman is yet to confirm his decision on the future, with many speculating that he may stay at Arsenal after all.

Sagna spent seven years at Arsenal without winning a major trophy, but he has already won the FA Cup and the League Cup since the move to City. “For me, Wenger’s a top manager, up there with Ferguson, right at the top. I see him fighting to carry on because the club is his life, he loves the club. I’ve been there with him at Arsenal and I see the way he is hurting at the minute. But in my opinion he is Arsenal, he has made Arsenal," said Sagna. Ferguson has lifted 24 major honours with the United compared to Arsene Wenger’s nine titles with Arsenal.
